Banh Mi

Today felt like a long day. Normally when my alarm goes off in the morning I am already laying there expecting it because my internal alarm clock works. Today however, my alarm completely took me by surprise and out of a deep sleep! Silly 8am shifts!

Even though I worked early, I made sure I gave myself time for a hearty breakfast. I wanted to make sure this got me through til lunch so I amped up the protein. Not only did I have a bowl of Kashi Golean Crunch with ground flax, fresh strawberries, dried cherries, and skim milk but I added a hardboiled egg to top it off! Mm mm!

Reader Magali noticed that in some of my pictures there’s a food scale. I often weight out ingredients such as milk, yogurt, and even Pirate’s Booty. If I’m not weighing, I’m always using my measuring cups and spoons. It’s so easy to not realize how many servings your pouring so this is how I stay true.

Sadly my protein heavy breakfast didn’t completely tide me over. Perhaps my 1.7 mile walk ate into it? With my 10 minute break at 10am I munched on a few chocolate eggs. ^_^ Hey, at least I turned down all the cupcakes, brownies, and cinnamon rolls we had in the break room!

Starbucks training is going well but there are a few things I did today that I could have done without.

  1. When asking if the customer was a Safeway Club Member I’d start to say “Staples” (which I worked at for 2 years) but then would catch myself at the “t” and so it would sound like I just had a brain fart. Sttttaaaaafeeeway.  -_- I really hope I didn’t sound as airheaded as I felt.
  2. In Montana, there is no sales tax! I am so not used to adding tax to everything. So, I constantly told people their total then hit the Tender button (where it adds the tax) and then have to correct myself and stupidly say “Oh yeah plus tax!”. They’d look at me like “Yep….there’s always tax.” I feel like I need a button that says “I’m from Montana. Sales tax? o.O”

Anyway when I got off work at noon I changed out of my drone getup and heated up my lunch. I’m trying to get used to eating lunch away from home and head to school straight from work since it takes so much more time just to get back to the apartment.

Lunch was a serving of last night’s Baked Bacon, Butternut Squash & Polenta Casserole with green beans and a drizzle of maple syrup. To be honest, it needed more maple syrup. >.< I devoured it though since I was pretty famished and also inhaled my cantaloupe.

Since I had a free Starbucks drink coupon, I grabbed a Grande (omg it was too big) nonfat latte with 1 pump mocha and caramel drizzle. To be honest, I wanted to throw this away after only drinking half because I always find I’m not such a fan of mocha as I thought but I ended up drinking the whole thing out of boredom while I waited for the bus. (I also couldn’t find a trashcan!)

When I got home from class I took some “me time” to relax. <3 The babies and I sat in front of screen door in the warm breeze and read some more Harry Potter.

And of course we had a snack! Chase was supposed to get home around 4pm and then we were to head to the gym so I figured I’d fuel up. About 2 servings of Pirate’s Booty later there was still no Chase…

He eventually did arrive home and with as mission to boot! His work gave him money to get a haircut! Haha, he’s apparently really good at getting people to pay for things. =P So we walked the 0.5 miles to a Supercuts and man does he look good now!

I have to get up hella early tomorrow morning (Yay 5:30am shift) so while we walked I computed what time I needed to go to bed. Realizing how little time I had left in my day we decided to splurge and try out a restaurant I’d been eyeing instead of taking the time to cook dinner. ^_^

Pho Mignon is super close to our home and was surprisingly affordable!

We started with some fancy sugary drinks. Raspberry Italian soda for him and a lavender bubble tea for me. I was very excited for the lavender flavoring but was a bit disappointed. The lavender was pretty masked by the coffee/chocolate flavoring going on and I really didn’t care for the frappe-esqe texture. The other bubble teas I’ve had have never been blended ice!

I did end up drinking most of it though I ate my dinner first since it was pretty dessert-y.

Dinner was a less than $5 Vietnamese sandwich! I’ve been wanting to try a Banh Mi Chay for awhile now. It’s filled with tofu, fresh cucumber, cilantro, and pickled carrots and daikon. Since this is my first banh mi I can’t really judge it but I must say I was a little disappointed. It had no sweet chili sauce or much flavor. However, I still ate the whole thing because I was hungry!

Chase and I will definitely be coming back to this place to try some other things. After your super inexpensive meal they give you the perfect size little taste of ice cream to really finish you off on a high note! I totally didn’t need the bubble tea! I think all restaurants should do this. ~.^ This little bite of sweet creamy heaven is really all you need.

Anyway I need to get ready for bed! O.O

Have you tried a banh mi or pho?
