Asian in an Irish Pub

Is it possible to feel the effects of a hangover a day after you should have had one? I don’t think so..so instead I think I may be coming down with something. =( Since the moment I woke up this morning I’ve had a headache. All over my head, not just one concentrated spot. I’ve also gotten the chills and just feel congested. =(

I hope my antibodies kick in soon and am ready for another week of chemistry and hardcore workouts because this weekend I totally took it easy (and splurged!)

I woke up as late as 9am and just laid in bed reading Harry Potter and waiting for my stomach to be hungry. It’s normally hungry first thing but today I felt nothing.

Eventually I decided I should eat and set to work making healthy pumpkin pie (oats).

These were delicious and totally better than a piece of pie. No more pie for me! After eating, although I was dressed in workout clothes, I climbed back in bed and read. I waited for my headache to go away.

Around 11am I got up and worked on chemistry and continued to wait for the aches and chills to pass. I ate a nectarine to see if it was food related. I even took some real asprin for it. Nothing helped. =(

Eventually, even though I only did an hour walk yesterday, I declared it a rest day and jumped in the shower to try and warm my bones.

Afterwards, though I wasn’t that hungry I decided trying to eat some more nutrients might help.

My dad had taken some of the Crunchy Greens and Apple Salad I’d made yesterday and sautéed it with some spices and sesame oil. It was delicious. I decided to eat it on top of an egg white pizza sprinkled with a little bit of feta and some Sriracha(yum!) hot chili sauce dribbled over it.

It was spicy but seemed to be the kick I needed to start feeling a bit better. That was around 3pm! By 6pm, I was ready for dinner.

For Father’s Day, my dad wanted to go some place new so we went to an Irish Pub called Sean Kelly’s The Stone of Accord. We’re Asian, so this was totally a different type of restaurant for us.

I also forgot my camera (yes both of them) so these shots were taken with my crappy cell phone. I really apologize because the food was beautiful!

Before going, I’d scoped out their menu online to make sure they had something I could eat. My heart was set on the Warm Brie Salad – Warm Brie, Granny Smith Apples, Cajun Candied Walnuts, Red Onions, Tomatoes, and Croutons tossed in a Honey Red Wine Vinaigrette.

I got the dressing on the side and added a grilled Portobello mushroom for more protein. This salad rocked my world. It was sooo good I am so glad I have half of it for lunch tomorrow! The spiciness of the walnuts went so well with the sweet apples and brie. I loved every single bite.

It also came with a piece of Irish Soda Bread on the side covered in honey butter. It was seriously the best piece of bread I’ve ever eaten.

I also picked at a few of Chase’s mountain of fries he received with his sandwich. To quote my father “Got a little sandwich with your fries?” It was seriously a mountain.

Even though I was stuffed, more uncomfortably than normal since the salad was just that good, my dad was really excited to try some desserts so I gave in.

None of know why, but we decided to get two.

The Irish Potato Sundae – Cocoa crusted Vanilla Bean Ice-cream in a pool of chocolate sauce. Topped with whipped cream, pecans, caramel, mint and chocolate cookie crumbs.

Yes the “Potato” part is all in the presentation. It 100% looked like a baked potato! I really wish my photo did it justice.

Warm Apple Crisp – Granny Smith apples topped with a cinnamon streusel. Served with ice-cream and whipped cream.

I only had a bite of the apple crisp and devoured the sundae. It was soo good with the Oreo cookie crumble on the bottom. In the end, we were all stuffed but happy with our new restaurant experience!

I’ve brushed my teeth since I know there is no way I could get hungry again tonight and am now ready for more chemistry studying. My headache is slightly back but no more chills yet. Hopefully I’ll be ready for a 4 mile run in the morning!

Happy Father’s Day All!
